Gange-Rolv, Rollo and William the Conqueror
Norse historical tradition identifies Gange-Rolv, son of Ragnvald, Earl of Møre, with Rollo, founder of the Norman ruling dynasty. Rollo’s descendant William the Conqueror became king of England in 1066. Ålesund’s statue of Gange-Rolv, unveiled in 1911, reflects this local historical tradition.
